Braiden's phone vibrated on top of his desk, notifying him of a message. When he leaned over to check, he found the code name he'd been using for Trey's name and a short message displayed. It was early in the morning, so it was, he presumed, Trey's routinely morning message. Even when Braiden told him that he preferred to call, Trey still sent him the "good morning" and "good night" messages.

Somehow, it brought a smile on Braiden's face.

A knock on his office door pulled the smile off of him, and he schooled his expression into something more neutral. "Come in."

Joe walked in with an amused glint in his eye. "I saw you eyeing your phone, you know."

Braiden resisted the urge to roll his eyes.

"I'm guessing it's going well between you and, you know?" Joe wiggled his eyebrows, implying more to Braiden and Trey's relationship. Braiden sighed.

"It's going well, but we're taking things slow. Like you suggested, I set up boundaries. Besides, we haven't even gone on our second date yet."

"Wow, wasn't your first date like a week ago?" Joe took the seat in front of Braiden's desk, and Braiden wondered why he was there in the first place. He didn't bother asking, knowing Joe would eventually tell him after he'd fed his curiosity.

"A week and a half to be more precise. But he wanted me to come up with something that I wanted to do, but every time I think of something, our parents or the situation gets in the way." Braiden shrugged. "It's not something new. It used to happen a lot more when we were in high school, and we were just brats then. Right now though, we're just looking for a day where our free days could coincide." He leaned back in his chair and sighed.

"Ah, well, this Friday won't require another over time, so maybe you guys can go out this weekend?"

"Hopefully. I'll talk to him about it, but we still have to finalize where to go and what to do." Braiden shrugged. "I'll probably come up with something later."

"That's great. I'm glad you guys seem to be hitting it off well, but I guess you've always had a good chemistry with him."

Braiden was taken aback by the comment. Joe had never seen the two of them together, so he didn't know where it was coming from. "What do you mean?"

"You guys were together for two years in high school, and you still have feelings for each other even now. I just thought maybe your bond was much stronger than you guys gave it credit for." Joe winked at Braiden and stood up. "Well, I just saw you smiling stupidly at your phone, so I just wanted to ask how things were. Glad everything's going great. Keep me updated!" He turned back before Braiden even had a chance to reply.

Braiden chuckled to himself. Joe was a pretty good guy, and he was lucky enough to be working with him. He definitely owed the guy. He made a note to repay him somehow before starting on his work.
